Wells was an English writer often called a father of science fiction, whose early scientific romances, The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau, invented many of the genre's enduring ideas. A prolific social thinker, he used fantastical premises to probe evolution, class, and the future of humanity.
