This Privacy Policy explains how Bookyol (“Bookyol”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use bookyol.com (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this Policy.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign up with email or with Google, we receive your email address and a unique account identifier. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile (name, email, and profile picture) as permitted by your Google account.
• Profile information you provide. Your display name, @handle, bio, avatar, and any personal links you choose to add. This information is public on your profile page.
• Content you create. Reviews, ratings, comments, likes, and reading lists. This content is public and attributed to your profile.
• Technical data. Standard server logs and essential cookies needed to keep you signed in.

How we use your information

• To provide and operate the Service, including your account and public profile.
• To display your reviews, ratings, and recommendations to other readers.
• To power book discovery and recommendations.
• To keep the Service secure and to prevent abuse.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run Bookyol:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and storage.
• Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
• Google — only if you choose “Continue with Google”, for authentication.
• Google Gemini — used to generate semantic search vectors from book descriptions. We do not send your personal information to this service.
• Retailers. The “Get the book” module links to third-party retailers. When you follow a link you leave Bookyol and are subject to that retailer’s privacy practices. These links may be affiliate links (see our Terms).

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to secure your session. We do not use advertising cookies.

Your rights and choices

• Access & update. You can edit your profile at any time from your profile page.
• Deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated content by contacting us at hello@bookyol.com.
• Sign-in method. You can use email or Google; revoking Bookyol’s access in your Google account settings stops future Google sign-ins.

Data retention

We retain your account and content while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information and public content within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

Security

We use industry-standard measures, including row-level security and encrypted connections, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

International users

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. By using the Service you consent to such transfers.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
