Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston was a novelist and trained anthropologist of the Harlem Renaissance who collected Black folklore across the American South and Caribbean. Their Eyes Were Watching God, dismissed by some contemporaries and long out of print, was revived by Alice Walker and is now a cornerstone of the American canon; Hurston herself died in obscurity in 1960.
