Homer is the name attached to the Iliad and the Odyssey — the foundational epics of Western literature, composed in oral tradition roughly 2,700 years ago and written down at the dawn of Greek letters. Whether one poet or many, 'Homer' gave the world its first great story of homecoming, and every voyage narrative since has been in dialogue with it.
