Virginia Woolf was a central figure of literary modernism and the Bloomsbury Group, pioneering stream-of-consciousness in Mrs Dalloway and To the Lighthouse. A brilliant essayist and feminist thinker whose A Room of One's Own remains a touchstone, she battled mental illness throughout her life and died in 1941.
