Isabel Wilkerson was the first Black woman to win a Pulitzer Prize in journalism, for her work at The New York Times. Her two books — The Warmth of Other Suns, on the Great Migration, and Caste — spent years synthesizing history and reportage into arguments that reshaped how America talks about race and hierarchy.
