BookYol is built on books, and it depends on the people who write and publish them. This page says what we do with a book, what we never do, and how to reach us if something on the site is wrong or should not be there. Requests are answered by a person, quickly.
1. What BookYol does with a book
A Station teaches an idea from a book in our own words, names the book and its author on the page, and links to the book's page on BookYol, which in turn points readers to buy the book. Every book page exists to send readers to the source: it explains what the book argues, who it is for and who it is not for, and carries a buy link where we have one. We think of every road as a recommendation of six books, and the books on our roads are the ones we most want people to own.
2. What BookYol never does
We do not reproduce a book's text. Stations, book pages and concept pages are written by our editors from the ideas, not copied from the pages. Quotes are short, attributed, shown with their context, and marked unverified until an editor has checked them against the book; a quote is never credited to someone who did not say it. We do not use a book's cover art without permission, and we do not present any summary as a substitute for the book.
3. If you are the author or the publisher
We would rather work with you than around you. If a page about your book has an error, a quote you want removed or corrected, a buy link you want changed, or a cover you would like us to show, write to us and we will make the change. If you would like a book removed from a road entirely, tell us; we will remove it and rewrite the affected Stations. We do not require a formal notice for any of this. An email is enough.
4. Copyright notices
If you believe content on bookyol.com infringes a copyright you own or represent, send us: the work concerned, the URL of the page, a statement that you own the rights or act for the owner, and your contact details. We act on complete notices promptly, normally within two working days, and we tell you what we did. If we believe a notice is mistaken, we say so and explain why; we do not ignore notices and we do not argue with rights holders over pages we can simply fix.
5. Corrections from readers
You do not have to be the author to report a mistake. If a Station misstates what a book says, a fact on an author page is wrong, or a quote is misattributed, use the contact page and name the page. Corrections are made on the page and noted in its editorial history.
6. Where to send it
bookyol.com/contact reaches a person, and every message on this page's subjects is answered. Include the URL of the page and, for rights matters, the information listed above so we can act on the first message.
