Learn Essentialism by Using It

You become someone who decides on purpose what matters, says no without guilt, and protects the few commitments that actually move your work and life forward.

In five minutes a day, you'll apply Greg McKeown's Essentialism to your real calendar instead of to hypotheticals. You'll name hidden trade-offs, score opportunities, decline a real request and leave one commitment that has stopped earning its place. There's no app and no hack. Some choices will sting a little, and that's usually a sign they're real.

Your intent and your first 90% test

Write a one-sentence essential intent for the next quarter. Make it concrete enough that you'll know at the end of the quarter whether you hit it. Then take one real opportunity in front of you, score it against three explicit criteria, and act on the result. Anything below a clear yes is a no.

    One no, one exit

Decline one real request and step out of one obligation you already hold. Tell the people involved directly instead of quietly drifting away. Then write down how many hours and how much energy each one frees, and what you'll give that space to.

A full week on your own system

Live by your one-page Essentialist system for seven days. Then hold your first weekly review against it: what you protected, what slipped back in, and one rule you'll adjust. A missed day isn't failure. The review is where the system gets better.
