The story and the impact
Olivier Sibony is a French professor of strategy at HEC Paris. Before teaching, he spent many years at McKinsey & Company, where he was a partner advising companies on strategy and on how their leaders reach major decisions.
He is the author of You're About to Make a Terrible Mistake! (2020), on the biases that derail strategic decisions and the ways a team can guard against them. With Daniel Kahneman and Cass R. Sunstein he wrote Noise (2021), on the unwanted variability in judgements that should agree.
The signature
Sibony brings the boardroom to the psychology of judgement. His interest is less the individual mind than the decision process around it: who speaks first, what the committee sees and in what order, and which simple changes to that process make a group's judgement better than its members' instincts.
