What you'll get
A report worth keeping
- The 20 items are the published Mini-IPIP, a short Big Five measure from the public-domain IPIP.
- Your answers stay in this browser until you choose to save a report.
- It describes tendencies. It is not a diagnosis, an IQ test or a measure of skill.
Warmth & cooperation
Your answers lean toward the warm, attuned end. You may notice how others feel quickly and care about keeping things good between people.
- May help you
- Trust and cooperation can grow around you.
- Worth watching
- Saying no or asking for what you need may feel harder than it should.

The 0–100 position is your average answer converted to a 0–100 line (1 → 0, 5 → 100). It is not a percentile and does not compare you with other people.
How Compass works
Compass uses the Mini-IPIP, a published 20-item short form of the International Personality Item Pool's Big Five measure. Four items describe each dimension; some are worded in reverse, so agreeing with them lowers that dimension's score.
For each dimension we average your four answers (1–5) after reversing the reversed items. That average decides which reviewed description you see. The same answers always give the same result: no AI writes or changes your scores.
Compass is BookYol's name for the experience and for how we connect understanding yourself to practice. We did not invent the Big Five, and our road suggestions are editorial judgement, not a scientifically validated method.
- Social energy(Extraversion)
- How much energy you tend to draw from people, talk and activity.
- Warmth & cooperation(Agreeableness)
- How strongly you tend to tune in to other people's feelings and needs.
- Discipline & order(Conscientiousness)
- How much you tend to lean on order, plans and finishing what you start.
- Stress sensitivity(Neuroticism)
- How strongly and how often you tend to feel stress, worry and mood shifts.
- Curiosity & imagination(Openness)
- How much you tend to enjoy ideas, abstractions and imagining what isn't there yet.
What this test can and can't tell you
- It describes how you see yourself today. Mood, context and the day you take it all play a part.
- Four items per dimension is short: treat the result as a starting point, not a final word.
- It is not a clinical or diagnostic tool, an IQ test, or a measure of ability. It does not tell you which job to do.
- There are no good or bad scores. Each end has strengths and things to watch.
Questions
Is the Compass test free?
Yes. The test, the summary and the full report are free. Saving the report needs an email address so we can send you a sign-in link.
Do I need an account to take it?
No. You can answer all 20 questions and see your summary without signing up. An account is created only if you choose to save the report and open the link we email you.
What is the Big Five?
A widely used model that describes personality along five broad dimensions. We use plain names, with the textbook term in brackets: social energy (extraversion), warmth and cooperation (agreeableness), discipline and order (conscientiousness), stress sensitivity (neuroticism) and curiosity and imagination (openness).
Is a high score better?
No. Each dimension runs between two ends, and both come with strengths and things to watch. The report says which way your answers lean, not how good they are.
What happens to my answers?
They stay in your browser while you take the test. If you save the report, we store your five scores with the date, language and scale version, never your individual answers, and you can delete them at any time.
Why does BookYol recommend a Yol?
Because a tendency is only useful when you do something with it. The roads are picked from the goal and obstacle you choose; your personality result never decides alone.
