The story and the impact
Rolf Dobelli studied philosophy and business in St. Gallen, worked as an executive at Swissair and co-founded getAbstract, a service that summarises business books. He published several novels before the book that made him known internationally.
The Art of Thinking Clearly began as a private list of the errors he kept catching in himself and in the executives around him, drawn from Kahneman, Tversky and Nassim Taleb, whom he counts as a friend and influence. Published in German in 2011 and English in 2013, it became a global bestseller, followed by The Art of the Good Life and Stop Reading the News.
The signature
Dobelli writes in three-page chapters: one error, one story, one defence, and no theory. His stance is stoic; you cannot stop the errors, but you can name them and stay out of the situations where they cost most.
