The story and the impact

Dan Heath is a writer and a senior fellow at Duke University's CASE center, which supports social entrepreneurs. Earlier he co-founded Thinkwell, a publisher of multimedia textbooks, and worked as a researcher at Harvard Business School.

With his brother Chip he co-wrote Made to Stick (2007), Switch (2010), Decisive (2013) and The Power of Moments (2017). On his own he wrote Upstream (2020), on solving problems before they happen, and Reset (2025), on getting unstuck.

His part of the partnership is often the reporting: the interviews and cases that give each principle a face, and the plain sentences that make a study memorable.

The signature

Heath's signature is the concrete case: the nurse, the teacher, the customer-service call that shows a principle at work in a way a reader can rehearse. He writes to be repeated in a hallway, which is the test the books themselves set.
