Benjamin Graham lost most of his fund in the 1929 crash, rebuilt it, and codified the lessons into value investing — Security Analysis for professionals, The Intelligent Investor for everyone else. At Columbia he taught a student named Warren Buffett, who worked for him, named a son after him, and still calls his book the best ever written on investing.
