In the moment, the pull of the phone always wins, because the moment is where impulse lives. Eyal's answer is to move the decision earlier, to a calmer self who can decide what the hour is for and make the alternative harder to reach. The sentence is why planning the day matters more than resisting during it, and why a pact made in the morning is stronger than any willpower at three in the afternoon.
